First of its kind to happen in Bagamoyo, remarkably attention grabbing to adults, extremely charming, exciting and inspiring to the children, in other words, it was a historical happening experience on the 16th of October 2022 when 1st Annual Bagamoyo Children Festival organized and prepared by AFRiCARRe foundation happened at the Tasuba Bagamoyo College Of Arts And Culture Tanzania. The main aim of the festival is to give children and young people a platform to showcase their talents, with a theme of reveal it, develop it.

Being an open event, close to 600 people attended and among them were Government officials, Community Stakeholders, leaders from different religious faiths, Parents, Community Children, Well-wishers and friends from USA and Poland, where the invited guest of honor was His Excellency Doctor Jakaya Kikwete the Former President Of Tanzania who unfortunately didn’t make it but rather honored the event by sending the Director of TaSUBa Dr Hubert Makoye.

As early as 9:30am, the first session of the event was on with workshops from both AFRiCARRe and community children ecstatically displaying and exposing different activities such as Drumming, Singing, Clay Modeling, Music and instrumentals, Drawing, painting and sport games with other local games like Mdako ,Bao, Kipande and kuvutana kamba among others. This session that took close to three hours highlighted AFRiCARRe Foundation’s desire of reminding the community about the essence of local games in raising an active and smart child.

The main event (second session) started with the arrival of guest of honor, followed by prayers from the religious leaders, introduction speech from the Foundation Director (basically talking about the reasons that fuelled up the desire of forming an organization), then a speech from the children’s representative and a series of entertaining stage performances from AFRiCARRe children. Each activity on the programme was entertaining, informative, exciting, inspiring and impressive to both children and adult audiences with one most outstanding thing that is the confidence and smartness AFRiCARRe children showed and carried on the festival, this caught many people’s attention.

Prior to the lunch break, there was a thirty minutes fundraising exercise for capital resources needed to quicken the construction of AFRiCARRe foundation school in Kidomole, this exercise’s participants were political leaders, friends (well-wishers) and relatives whom pledged to contribute close to 15 millions however our target was 700 millions. On the same note Mr. Rodney Carr from USA, the long term friend who has constantly been supporting AFRiCARRe Foundation donated two office laptops and two cellphones to AFRiCARRe staff members, he again pledged and promised to provide a student exchange programme to all children at the foundation center, this will grant a chance to each child to travel to USA to explore the culture of learning and living.

After the end of fundraising exercise, lunch was served to over 600 individuals, both children and adults were fed just like an African proverb says “mgeni njoo mwenyeji apone” meaning when there is a guest, there is always food. AFRiCARRe Foundation honored and applied what the proverb says and this excited the community to such a great extent that many began thanking the visionary and creator of AFRiCARRe Foundation for choosing Bagamoyo.

To briefly talk about our budget, initially our designed budget was 15 millions however the actual expenditure was fifteen million five hundred fifty three thousand nine hundred shillings, this amount didn’t come all from AFRiCARRe foundation but rather from you our dear partners, donors and sponsors, therefore, We are thankful to all our partners, sponsors and donors who made AFRiCARRe Foundation happen on the festival day in Bagamoyo. Your support, special giving hand and love towards children development enables AFRiCARRe Foundation to have an impact on the community, greatly looking forward to a long termed relationship together as we build the next generation.

In conclusion, the 1st Annual Bagamoyo Children Festival on the 16th of October 2022 was a success, where passion and interest were invested especially in the government officials and community stakeholders in attendance with an aim of increasing and widening potential sources of support needed while AFRiCARRe Foundation builds tomorrow’s citizens and leaders of our great Nation of Tanzania, and on the other hand, children were given a platform to showcase their talents this simply implies that each and every year Bagamoyo children festival will happen, provided with that information I hereby inform you that our next Annual Bagamoyo Children Festival is happening on the 14th - 15th of October 2023, we are hopefully looking forward to your unending support towards this mission of creating and giving young people a platform to showcase their endowed talents.
